Working at McGuire Memorial is like no other opportunity in the world; the individuals we serve become our best friends, our brothers, our sisters - truly our family. To be able to build bonds such as these is an amazing blessing that enriches our lives and theirs beyond measure.

For individuals with multiple disabilities, the early years after school has finished (usually ages 18 to 21) can be particularly stressful times – for themselves and their family members. A change in such everyday circumstances can occur when the young adults can no longer attend the schools they have attended since a very early age. This often leads to great uncertainties about the future.
Individuals at the McGuire Memorial Adult Training Facility frequently have an important advantage in this regard, as many are familiar with our environment from previous experience and/or by being a resident at McGuire Memorial or at one of our community homes. This feeling of comfort with the facility makes the transition to our adult program-rooms and the activities they will be involved with much easier.
Individual Support Plans make this time in these young adults’ lives more “school-like” and ease their transition into adult living and help them achieve the skills they develop in the years ahead. “Living life to the fullest” becomes even more meaningful!
